Vineyard
The fruit was sourced from a vineyard located in Yarra Junction that was established in 1999. The vines are now 25 years old and produce premium quality grapes suitable for our Reserve label. The vines are all MV6 clone Pinot Noir on own roots grown on a VSP trellis, the vineyard yields less than 2 tonne per acre. The Yarra Junction area makes Pinot Noir with intense dark fruit notes and delicate spice with structural tannins resulting in wines with power that have good ageing potential.
Winemaking
The fruit was hand picked on the 21st of May. The majority of grapes were destemmed and then fermented in our 3000L French oak tank, while 20% stayed as whole bunches and was fermented seperately in a stainless open fermenter. The wine was kept on skins for 7 days post fermentation before being pressed off and blending the parcels together. The wine was transferred to French oak barrels (33% new) for malolactic fermentation and 8 months maturation in our cellar. The wine was bottled on the 21st of December 2023.
Sensory Analysis
A deep garnet colour with purple hue. Aromas of dark cherry, blackberry and cranberry with a hint of cardomon spice on the nose. The palate has dark berry fruit richness supported by fine silky tannins creating incredible length of flavour. It is a wine of delicate elegance and power perfectly balanced. The wine is young and vibrant now but has the potential to cellar for up to 8 years.
