We’re delighted to share that the latest reviews from the Halliday Wine Companion have once again recognised a strong line up of Tokar Estate wines. With multiple wines scoring in the mid-90s and two receiving Special Value awards, these results reflect the continued focus on quality in both our vineyard and winery in the Yarra Valley.
From elegant Chardonnays and Pinot Noirs through to structured Cabernet Sauvignon and our distinctive Amphora Tempranillo, the latest ratings highlight the diversity and character of our estate wines.
Chardonnay
2024 Estate Chardonnay 93½ points
“Discreet aromas of green apple, honey and a hint of sea spray. The palate is tightly wound, with a little orange pith on the long, balanced finish. A very nicely put together wine that should blossom over the next 12–24 months.” — Philip Rich
2024 Coldstream Vineyard Chardonnay 95½ points
“This needed a few good swirls before revealing a complex array of aromas, from just-ripened stone fruits through to a little matchstick and oyster shell scents. It is just as tightly wound on the chalk-inflected, tensile palate, which finishes saline and long. I imagine this will open up nicely over the next couple of years.” — Philip Rich

“A medium ruby red. Aromas of brambly red fruits intermingle with crushed flowers and a little spice. Medium bodied with good mid-palate intensity and firm yet supple tannins that round out a wine that should really start to hit its straps over the next couple of years. “A medium ruby red. Dark fruits, cola and a hint of desiccated coconut lead onto the ripe, plush and relatively forward palate. A wine looking for a juicy steak or the like!” — Philip Rich
2024 Amphora Tempranillo 93 points
“Fermented and matured in a 1000L Spanish amphora. A medium, bright garnet. With its bouquet of sour cherry, damson plum and violets, the absence of oak works well here. Medium bodied and gently plush, the polished tannins round out a wine that’s approachable now but will also age nicely over the medium term.” — Philip Rich
Shiraz

“A medium bright crimson. Red and black fruits intermingle with spice box and floral scents. Medium bodied and nicely concentrated, the tannins are gently sinewy, making for an appealing wine to drink now and over the next five years.” — Philip Rich
Cabernet Sauvignon

“Youthful bright crimson purple. Expressive and lifted with aromas of dark cherries, cassis, violets and cedar from impeccably handled oak. “An inviting crimson ruby red. Opens with a ripe core of black cherries with cedar, hedgerow and a hint of rose petals. Layered and rich on the palate with firm but balanced tannins.
